Tour Description

Leaving from the heart of Porto this Tour will take you to Aveiro, a city with a rich landscape, characterised by its sandy coast, beautiful estuary, gardens and parks. Commonly nicknamed the ‘Portuguese Venice’, the enchanting capital city of Aveiro is crossed by a shimmering canal and is considered one of the most charming destinations in the country for its brightly patterned “moliceiro” boats, array of pastel-tinted Art Nouveau buildings and its calm urban atmosphere.

As you arrive in Aveiro, the tour will start in the city centre, with a pedestrian guided tour, to capture the essence of the perfect picture-book destination, with its colourful gondola-shaped boats, natural lagoons, elegant 19th Century architecture and traditional cobblestone passageways – this is a special place where old meets new. This tour will take you to the main interest points of Aveiro, such as the Fish Market, a building all in glass with a beautiful fountain at its entrance, which is located in the “Fish Square”, where you will also find a variety of restaurants and bars.

While in the city centre, you will have a tour on the famous colourful gondola boats “the Moliceiros”, through the Portuguese Venice passing by the four urban canals of Aveiro and the main interest points. During the cruise you will be explained all trivial and historical facts of Aveiro. The tour would not be complete without a tasting of the traditional pastry of Aveiro, the “Ovos Moles” the most traditional and can be traduced to soft eggs, a soft tasty pastry with egg threads. Delicious and unforgettable. After the pastry we take you to the Salt Salines, one of the most ancient traditions of Aveiro, to give you a glance of the salt extraction process as well as salt and Salicornia flower. With an open appetite it’s time for a typical Portuguese lunch.

But Aveiro still has a lot to offer, after lunch we will visit a multi-trophic aquaculture system reusing waste water from fish production.  The only company in Portugal to farm seaweed integrated with seabream and seabass production under the concept of Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA). Set in an on-shore property at Ria de Aveiro of 14ha, work with native seaweed species of the Atlantic, having all the production and processing activities in-house and organic certified by EU standards. The cultivation of seaweeds is done in a 600 square meters area filled with a tanks system continuously filled with recycled seawater, pumped from the fish earthen-ponds. Thus, excess nutrients in the water body are reduced and become valuable seaweed biomass. The visit includes tour to 1) the fish tanks, 2) the start of the value chain a unique nursery in Europe that mimics the optimal winter and summer conditions to kick-off of the production for Atlantic species and the maintenance of a seaweed culture collection and 3) processing room where the washing, the drying and packaging of the different products takes place.

After the visit it is time to departure back to Porto.

Tour Description

From the heart of Porto this Tour will take you to see the first demarcated and regulated wine region in the world, the “Douro Valley”, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, in 2001.

Our first stop will be at “Casa de Mateus” in Vila Real. Built in the first half of the 18C and betraying the finishing touches of Nicolau Nasoni, this palace set in beautiful gardens on a vast farm is considered to be one of the finest examples of baroque civil architecture in Portugal.

Moving towards the Douro Valley, which could as easily be called the enchanted valley, such is the beauty and magic that its landscapes offers, to explore the amazing views where the river flows into the sea and where the Douro wines, produced on its hillsides, also end up, there are various ways to get to know this cultural landscape, by road, by train, on a cruise boat and even by helicopter. None will leave you indifferent. For a closer look the tour will be by road on a Bus, through the demarcated regions with its amazing scenery and imposing landscape to the vineyards terraces, an unmistakable landmark of this wine region that produces a unique wine that couldn't be made anywhere else. The Port Wine, Portugal's best ambassador in the world.

Along the tour you will also have the opportunity to have a tasting of the famous Port Wine in a modern Winery as well as a guided tour explaining some of the details about the production of their wine.
